[00:00.947] Delighted to welcome Lana Del Rey! Hello.
[00:01.692] Hi!
[00:02.944] How are you?
[00:03.943] I’m good. And how are you?
[00:05.452] I’m fine. I’ve ever noticed in your videos before the gold teeth.
[00:06.697] Is that a recent edition? Have you chipped it? What’s going on there?
[00:08.694] It’s a recent edition ya just… you know I just keeping in a real, just for a little bit..
[00:11.200] Are you dentally good though?
[00:13.198] Ya, all good
[00:19.700] Ya the brits are too, I don’t know what are they talking about?
[00:22.947] It’s a terrible stereotype.
[00:24.445] That’s stupid.
[00:24.945] Although I …
[00:25.943] I know all about that.
[00:27.953] So you first caught our attention last summer when I saw a video of a couple of your songs online
[00:30.193] And from saw the videos, the image I had of you in my imagination was this kind of Bohemian girl who’s perhaps a bit like jade wit life
[00:39.946] Who probably lived in a small quite cluttered apartment full of bricabracan and nicknacks
[00:47.701] And you spend your spare time go to garage sells
[00:50.452] And buying a couple of scenic films
[00:53.693] And splice them together by night.
[00:55.444] How closed that truth?
[00:57.200] I don’t know. I mean I feel like that…
[00:59.195] I feel like that the vision is …
[01:01.946] Like you’re talking about the same girl except I just
[01:04.199] I don’t go to the garage or anything like that…
[01:08.193] I’m really hunting for my film on YouTobe
[01:11.443] (right) but … I don’t know …
[01:14.949] It’s half a way there..
[01:16.194]
[01:18.445] Ok it’s no get of truth in there
[01:20.197] So you don’t got o the garage sells
[01:21.452] What do you spend your money?
[01:22.695] Or are you a thrifty person?
[01:24.447] What I do my money spend on?
[01:26.201] I don’t spend my money on anything. I just …
[01:29.195] You re thrifty-yeah I’m thrifty. Yeah I hate spend my money.
[01:31.695] But you’re not somebody who puts a lot of sentimental value on things.
[01:35.952] You are more of an experienced person?
[01:37.196] Not really, I mean…
[01:38.446] You know like if I had a lot of money
[01:39.944] Like I’ll buy something like really beautiful like maybe with little diamonds in it
[01:41.700] About this little ring
[01:47.191] But other than that
[01:49.443] Like I spend money on you know
[01:55.886] like it’s actually experience to get some of those films cleared like for video games
[01:59.636] and things like that and I like to put my money back into the music usually
[02:00.888] and are you from a film background or a music back ground
[02:01.886] music
[02:04.141] so you didn’t like… its just an interest you…came to yourself
[02:06.637] ya I didn’t study it.
[02:08.136] I was like a writer first and a singer.
[02:11.385] And then kind of came into editing later
[02:14.391] But it’s something I ended up feeling just as passionate about as singing, so…
[02:18.883] So manage the picture and the voice(yeah)
[02:22.137] And so… so quickly in terms of having a record out
[02:27.640] And I don’t know how quickly is in terms of what’s going on your life
[02:29.891] But certainly so quickly in terms of having release a record
[02:32.887] It’s gone very massive it’s huge level of success
[02:36.380] And then there’s been this a kind of unprecedented very modern kind of snippy backlash
[02:42.641] How’s that…that is tentative for you?
[02:44.891] Do you feel like you got everything you wanted on one hand but it has been tainted?
[02:49.142] I don’t know if it’s been tainted,
[02:51.380] It’s definitely been different from what I expected
[02:54.133] But you know I have a lot of time to think about the record and what I want
[03:01.086] Coz you know I’ve been written it since last year
[03:03.593] So I sort of finished writing record before anything was really happening
[03:08.343] And so…I don’t know I mean I don’t really think it’s tainted.
[03:14.089] But I couldn’t have imaged that it like this. I guess that I’d say
[03:17.097] I think most people’s way to image success is people are hearing your music ,you are out playing shows and people are liking it.
[03:23.344] I don’t image that some snipping on a hipster blog or on a brochure review is a part of that. Though you re quite bulletproof to that criticism, do you think it?
[03:28.091] I don’t know .you know, I don’t think it too much only because you know I’ve been in new York for about 7 years and a lot of people I started singing with don’t sing anymore, don’t write anymore.
[03:50.238] So the fact I can still do that like come here, play shows, sing and write
[03:54.986] You know, that’s kind of a gift, that’s kind of I sort of stay focus on like I keep writing
[03:58.993] when I went back to New York and California
[04:00.244] the last two weeks I got to come back into the studio and keep working so I find that when I’m working, it’s easier to just sinking to that.
[04:09.439] You’re bad with down time then?
[04:12.691] No, I actually really like down time but I haven’t had too much of it.
[04:15.685] Well that probably get wild before you get any as well. - we’ll see.
[04:20.931] And Lana Del Rey then the sort of name or the personal, is it you as a person or is a part you’re playing?
[04:25.681] Definitely very much me.Emm…I just had… I just really wanted a name that was as beautiful as I thought the music was gonna be
[04:32.182] Like where did you find where did you find the name come from?
[04:37.940] Well. I was going with my sister a lot to Miami…
[04:41.434] We were spending time with our friends from Cuba
[04:44.192] And I wanted something that’s different sort of sound like…
[04:48.435] Faded seaside glamour
[04:50.931] And that was something that sounded beautiful but sonically
[04:53.186] I just like a way it sort of rolled off the tip of tongue
[04:54.940] Did you have a long list of the other option?
[04:57.692] I had a very short list
[04:59.940] What else is on the list?
[05:00.939] I don’t know.
[05:02.182] You do know-I wouldn’t tell you. I’m sure I wouldn’t tell you.
[05:04.935] A question I want to talk to you is it real Nancy Sinatra being in touch
[05:09.184] After having describe yourself as gangsta Nancy Sinatra?
[05:12.932] No she hasn’t,no.
[05:18.876] But you know I mean like again that I had something I just put on my Youtube page like for fun.
[05:25.874] And the as soon as the song sort of got more attention and then people had grabbed that phrase of my Youtube and started recycling it before I could even get a hold on it
[05:32.621] But that’s a way of the things you can ues phrases like that in bios and Tweeter or Youtube for years
[05:34.618] And nobody knows them, but the second on spotlight is on.
[05:37.370] But everything is hype-scrutinized.
[05:39.124] I know, that’s was a real classy…classy decision, that’s great
[05:42.629] Ask this question what music is die rise to you in fact
[05:46.877] If you’ll be euthanized, what would be on the CD mistype for you to die to?
[05:51.128] Well, I was…I didn’t have any another answer for you
[05:55.620] But since you put it that way, I probably died to Jeff Buckley,
[05:59.624] I guess there probably wouldn’t be another way.
[06:02.621] It’s good way to go out yeah-good music.
[06:05.629] Good music to die to, send me on the heaven, heavenly voice, heavenly tunes
[06:10.121] But I have a couple of records that I sort of near endeared me.
[06:14.127] I really like Nirvana and I really like Bob Dylan, and I like frank Sinatra’s voice.
[06:23.082] Are you scared to death?
[06:26.076] Well yeah yeah …
[06:28.582] Do you think about your own death?
[06:29.835] I used to think about it.
[06:32.332] Did you see it like natural cases at old age or tragic starlet robbed of life?
[06:38.580] No, I don’t know what I thought.
[06:43.084] I just knew that it scared me, god! I don’t know.
[06:45.080] Cos they say there are two types of people that the people who fantasized about their weddings and and people who fantasize about their own funerals
[06:50.587] That’s true.
[06:51.324] Yeh yeh do you think you are falling into other those categories?
[06:54.080] Yeh I’m a modern day woman, I think I fall into both of them.
[06:56.329] I fantasized about I was both of them.
[06:59.081] Would you have a happy funeral or people really are clenching their teeth and wailing
[07:02.830] And outpouring grief?
[07:04.331] That’s a good question.
[07:06.086] The same goes for wedding
[07:07.081] Hopefully just the family would be their god, I don’t know
[07:10.268] Oh emm…can you pinpoint a moment in your life where you feel that was the moment be it one second or ten minutes
[07:20.953] Or whatever that you felt that you are content and happiest?
[07:24.701] Yeh I mean for me it’s… I mean for me it’s really every day.
[07:26.210] I mean I can’t really explain to you.
[07:28.952] I’m really so grateful just to be alive and healthy every single day
[07:31.702] That’s such a surprise for me given that the film
[07:34.709] You used have a sense of nostalgia to them
[07:38.204] I would expect you to be nostalgia of a summer or you know a boat journey
[07:41.710] Or you know something you would romanticize that way-ah yeah i think i see...
[07:44.207] I mean like I see everything in the pictures like when i think back to the way that things they were very vivid to me like and i do
[07:56.151] When I kind of write I sort of write back to the picture that I can remember
[07:57.150] But I mean that a lot of things that people said they thought they were said
[08:02.398] I actually thought I were happy be
[08:03.396] And like you know when I wrote Video Games
[08:05.148] I mean to me it was real a love song
[08:07.157] It was actually about sort of a happy time
[08:08.654] But I think because of the melody is sort of sullen that...
[08:12.904] Did you, when you came up with the melody which we heard just before
[08:15.655] You know that lift in the chorus
[08:18.651] You know, did you know you’re on to something
[08:21.146] Because it’s something almost like military like
[08:22.655] a military band or Last Post or something about it
[08:25.396] I personally thought that I was on to something
[08:27.904] I mean not on to something I mean in terms of
[08:30.899] Writing a melody that I thought describe me perfectly
[08:35.904] You know like that I thought was gorgeous and didn’t compromise
[08:40.650] I definitely thought the song did that
[08:43.647] But it was you know a choir 5min 30 sec
[08:47.151] Love ballet with no instruments
[08:48.908] So sentiment wasn’t necessarily you know
[08:51.902] And you feel like the girl in that song still
[08:54.899] Um yeah I mean I always feel...I mean
[08:57.647] I always feel like the same person
[08:59.157] Wherever I go sort of
[09:00.898] But you know she’s not...she wasn’t sad you know like...
[09:03.896] it doesn’t same like that...
[09:05.148] Seems like something called slug...might be but can’t say the slug love
[09:09.154] You know you’re just kind of happy to
[09:11.396] Lie around with someone around(yeah)some wall slop out
[09:13.904] Yeah, I mean I really enjoy...
[09:18.152] You know I’m just... it’s nice to be in love.yeah...so...
[09:25.039] And what you want?
[09:26.792] I have everything I want.
[09:30.046] That was OK...what you hope for? What you strike for? What’s your ambition?
[09:35.289] I really can’t think of any.
[09:36.791] I wouldn’t have to leave the house if I felt like that
[09:38.795] I don’t wanna leave the house,I’m happy at home
[09:43.244] I really am,I am!
[09:47.941] Lana thank you so much for talking to us,
[09:48.441] The best luck with the album Burn To Die
[09:50.195] Thank you, I appreciate it, appreciate it.
[00:00.947] Delighted to welcome Lana Del Rey! Hello.

[06:26.076] Well yeah yeah
[06:28.582] Do you think about your own death?
[06:29.835] I used to think about it.
[06:32.332] Did you see it like natural cases at old age or tragic starlet robbed of life?

[07:38.204] I would expect you to be nostalgia of a summer or you know a boat journey
[07:41.710] Or you know something you would romanticize that wayah yeah i think i see...
[08:18.651] You know, did you know you' re on to something
[08:21.146] Because it' s something almost like military like
[08:22.655] a military band or Last Post or something about it
[08:25.396] I personally thought that I was on to something
[08:27.904] I mean not on to something I mean in terms of
[08:30.899] Writing a melody that I thought describe me perfectly
[08:35.904] You know like that I thought was gorgeous and didn' t compromise
[08:40.650] I definitely thought the song did that
[08:43.647] But it was you know a choir 5min 30 sec
[08:47.151] Love ballet with no instruments
[08:48.908] So sentiment wasn' t necessarily you know
[08:51.902] And you feel like the girl in that song still
[08:54.899] Um yeah I mean I always feel... I mean
[08:57.647] I always feel like the same person
[08:59.157] Wherever I go sort of
[09:00.898] But you know she' s not... she wasn' t sad you know like...
[09:03.896] it doesn' t same like that...
[09:05.148] Seems like something called slug... might be but can' t say the slug love
[09:09.154] You know you' re just kind of happy to
[09:11.396] Lie around with someone around yeah some wall slop out
[09:13.904] Yeah, I mean I really enjoy...
[09:18.152] You know I' m just... it' s nice to be in love. yeah... so...
[09:25.039] And what you want?
[09:26.792] I have everything I want.
[09:30.046] That was OK... what you hope for? What you strike for? What' s your ambition?
[09:35.289] I really can' t think of any.
[09:36.791] I wouldn' t have to leave the house if I felt like that
[09:38.795] I don' t wanna leave the house, I' m happy at home
[09:43.244] I really am, I am!
[09:47.941] Lana thank you so much for talking to us,
[09:48.441] The best luck with the album Burn To Die
[09:50.195] Thank you, I appreciate it, appreciate it.
[00:00.947] Delighted to welcome Lana Del Rey! Hello.
[00:01.692] Hi!
[00:02.944] How are you?
[00:03.943] I' m good. And how are you?
[00:05.452] I' m fine. I' ve ever noticed in your videos before the gold teeth.
[00:06.697] Is that a recent edition? Have you chipped it? What' s going on there?
[00:08.694] It' s a recent edition ya just you know I just keeping in a real, just for a little bit..
[00:11.200] Are you dentally good though?
[00:13.198] Ya, all good
[00:19.700] Ya the brits are too, I don' t know what are they talking about?
[00:22.947] It' s a terrible stereotype.
[00:24.445] That' s stupid.
[00:24.945] Although I
[00:25.943] I know all about that.
[00:27.953] So you first caught our attention last summer when I saw a video of a couple of your songs online
[00:30.193] And from saw the videos, the image I had of you in my imagination was this kind of Bohemian girl who' s perhaps a bit like jade wit life
[00:39.946] Who probably lived in a small quite cluttered apartment full of bricabracan and nicknacks
[00:47.701] And you spend your spare time go to garage sells
[00:50.452] And buying a couple of scenic films
[00:53.693] And splice them together by night.
[00:55.444] How closed that truth?
[00:57.200] I don' t know. I mean I feel like that
[00:59.195] I feel like that the vision is
[01:01.946] Like you' re talking about the same girl except I just
[01:04.199] I don' t go to the garage or anything like that
[01:08.193] I' m really hunting for my film on YouTobe
[01:11.443] right but I don' t know
[01:14.949] It' s half a way there..
[01:16.194]
[01:18.445] Ok it' s no get of truth in there
[01:20.197] So you don' t got o the garage sells
[01:21.452] What do you spend your money?
[01:22.695] Or are you a thrifty person?
[01:24.447] What I do my money spend on?
[01:26.201] I don' t spend my money on anything. I just
[01:29.195] You re thriftyyeah I' m thrifty. Yeah I hate spend my money.
[01:31.695] But you' re not somebody who puts a lot of sentimental value on things.
[01:35.952] You are more of an experienced person?
[01:37.196] Not really, I mean
[01:38.446] You know like if I had a lot of money
[01:39.944] Like I' ll buy something like really beautiful like maybe with little diamonds in it
[01:41.700] About this little ring
[01:47.191] But other than that
[01:49.443] Like I spend money on you know
[01:55.886] like it' s actually experience to get some of those films cleared like for video games
[01:59.636] and things like that and I like to put my money back into the music usually
[02:00.888] and are you from a film background or a music back ground
[02:01.886] music
[02:04.141] so you didn' t like its just an interest you came to yourself
[02:06.637] ya I didn' t study it.
[02:08.136] I was like a writer first and a singer.
[02:11.385] And then kind of came into editing later
[02:14.391] But it' s something I ended up feeling just as passionate about as singing, so
[02:18.883] So manage the picture and the voice yeah
[02:22.137] And so so quickly in terms of having a record out
[02:27.640] And I don' t know how quickly is in terms of what' s going on your life
[02:29.891] But certainly so quickly in terms of having release a record
[02:32.887] It' s gone very massive it' s huge level of success
[02:36.380] And then there' s been this a kind of unprecedented very modern kind of snippy backlash
[02:42.641] How' s that that is tentative for you?
[02:44.891] Do you feel like you got everything you wanted on one hand but it has been tainted?
[02:49.142] I don' t know if it' s been tainted,
[02:51.380] It' s definitely been different from what I expected
[02:54.133] But you know I have a lot of time to think about the record and what I want
[03:01.086] Coz you know I' ve been written it since last year
[03:03.593] So I sort of finished writing record before anything was really happening
[03:08.343] And so I don' t know I mean I don' t really think it' s tainted.
[03:14.089] But I couldn' t have imaged that it like this. I guess that I' d say
[03:17.097] I think most people' s way to image success is people are hearing your music , you are out playing shows and people are liking it.
[03:23.344] I don' t image that some snipping on a hipster blog or on a brochure review is a part of that. Though you re quite bulletproof to that criticism, do you think it?
[03:28.091] I don' t know . you know, I don' t think it too much only because you know I' ve been in new York for about 7 years and a lot of people I started singing with don' t sing anymore, don' t write anymore.
[03:50.238] So the fact I can still do that like come here, play shows, sing and write
[03:54.986] You know, that' s kind of a gift, that' s kind of I sort of stay focus on like I keep writing
[03:58.993] when I went back to New York and California
[04:00.244] the last two weeks I got to come back into the studio and keep working so I find that when I' m working, it' s easier to just sinking to that.
[04:09.439] You' re bad with down time then?
[04:12.691] No, I actually really like down time but I haven' t had too much of it.
[04:15.685] Well that probably get wild before you get any as well. we' ll see.
[04:20.931] And Lana Del Rey then the sort of name or the personal, is it you as a person or is a part you' re playing?
[04:25.681] Definitely very much me. Emm I just had I just really wanted a name that was as beautiful as I thought the music was gonna be
[04:32.182] Like where did you find where did you find the name come from?
[04:37.940] Well. I was going with my sister a lot to Miami
[04:41.434] We were spending time with our friends from Cuba
[04:44.192] And I wanted something that' s different sort of sound like
[04:48.435] Faded seaside glamour
[04:50.931] And that was something that sounded beautiful but sonically
[04:53.186] I just like a way it sort of rolled off the tip of tongue
[04:54.940] Did you have a long list of the other option?
[04:57.692] I had a very short list
[04:59.940] What else is on the list?
[05:00.939] I don' t know.
[05:02.182] You do knowI wouldn' t tell you. I' m sure I wouldn' t tell you.
[05:04.935] A question I want to talk to you is it real Nancy Sinatra being in touch
[05:09.184] After having describe yourself as gangsta Nancy Sinatra?
[05:12.932] No she hasn' t, no.
[05:18.876] But you know I mean like again that I had something I just put on my Youtube page like for fun.
[05:25.874] And the as soon as the song sort of got more attention and then people had grabbed that phrase of my Youtube and started recycling it before I could even get a hold on it
[05:32.621] But that' s a way of the things you can ues phrases like that in bios and Tweeter or Youtube for years
[05:34.618] And nobody knows them, but the second on spotlight is on.
[05:37.370] But everything is hypescrutinized.
[05:39.124] I know, that' s was a real classy classy decision, that' s great
[05:42.629] Ask this question what music is die rise to you in fact
[05:46.877] If you' ll be euthanized, what would be on the CD mistype for you to die to?
[05:51.128] Well, I was I didn' t have any another answer for you
[05:55.620] But since you put it that way, I probably died to Jeff Buckley,
[05:59.624] I guess there probably wouldn' t be another way.
[06:02.621] It' s good way to go out yeahgood music.
[06:05.629] Good music to die to, send me on the heaven, heavenly voice, heavenly tunes
[06:10.121] But I have a couple of records that I sort of near endeared me.
[06:14.127] I really like Nirvana and I really like Bob Dylan, and I like frank Sinatra' s voice.
[06:23.082] Are you scared to death?
[06:26.076] Well yeah yeah
[06:28.582] Do you think about your own death?
[06:29.835] I used to think about it.
[06:32.332] Did you see it like natural cases at old age or tragic starlet robbed of life?
[06:38.580] No, I don' t know what I thought.
[06:43.084] I just knew that it scared me, god! I don' t know.
[06:45.080] Cos they say there are two types of people that the people who fantasized about their weddings and and people who fantasize about their own funerals
[06:50.587] That' s true.
[06:51.324] Yeh yeh do you think you are falling into other those categories?
[06:54.080] Yeh I' m a modern day woman, I think I fall into both of them.
[06:56.329] I fantasized about I was both of them.
[06:59.081] Would you have a happy funeral or people really are clenching their teeth and wailing
[07:02.830] And outpouring grief?
[07:04.331] That' s a good question.
[07:06.086] The same goes for wedding
[07:07.081] Hopefully just the family would be their god, I don' t know
[07:10.268] Oh emm can you pinpoint a moment in your life where you feel that was the moment be it one second or ten minutes
[07:20.953] Or whatever that you felt that you are content and happiest?
[07:24.701] Yeh I mean for me it' s I mean for me it' s really every day.
[07:26.210] I mean I can' t really explain to you.
[07:28.952] I' m really so grateful just to be alive and healthy every single day
[07:31.702] That' s such a surprise for me given that the film
[07:34.709] You used have a sense of nostalgia to them
[07:38.204] I would expect you to be nostalgia of a summer or you know a boat journey
[07:41.710] Or you know something you would romanticize that wayah yeah i think i see...

[08:05.148] I mean to me it was real a love song
[08:07.157] It was actually about sort of a happy time
[08:08.654] But I think because of the melody is sort of sullen that...
[08:12.904] Did you, when you came up with the melody which we heard just before

[09:25.039] And what you want?
[09:26.792] I have everything I want.
[09:30.046] That was OK... what you hope for? What you strike for? What' s your ambition?
[09:35.289] I really can' t think of any.

[09:50.195] Thank you, I appreciate it, appreciate it.
